Baby Shopping Guide: The Must-Haves

When your little bundle of joy finally comes to this world, you feel like you’re more than ready to shower it with love, care and attention. However, there are also millions of other things to consider upon and before the arrival of your newborn. You’ll need some must-haves to make your day-to-day life as a parent endurable, and to make sure your precious baby is safe and sound at all times. So, if you’re expecting and thinking there’s less and less time to have everything ready before the day – don’t stress, we got you covered with the ultimate baby shopping guide we shared below.

1. Diapering essentials

Your baby will most likely go through 10 to 12 diapers a day in the first period, so try to plan accordingly. Decide if you want to use cloth, disposables or something other than that, but in case you opt for cloth, consider a lidded diaper pail with a washable liner. For disposables, to stop the smell from spreading around your home, choose an airtight pail which seals and stores dirty diapers until you throw them out. Moreover, you will want to buy wipes and diaper rash cream to complete your diapering essentials kit. Unscented wipes and Sudocream are the healthiest options since they do not irritate baby’s skin.

2. Baby gear

When the baby comes, you’re more or less tied to it 24 hours a day for seven days a week. You will be carrying your baby anywhere you move, so if you wish to have your hands free at some point, a baby carrier is your savior. Look for one with straps and harnesses for secure support. After only a couple of weeks, you’ll take your precious one around town for a walk, ie. ride in a stroller. And finally, a car seat. It needs to be safe and new – do not be tempted to buy a used car seat, you never know whether it had gone through an accident or it is secure enough. Additionally, you might want to put up shades for the car windows to keep your baby’s skin and eyes protected from the harmful UV rays.

3. Baby clothes

From bodysuits to shirts and outer layers, your kid will need lots of clothes. Also, with such rapid growth, you’ll probably have to go clothes shopping once a month. Yes, babies don’t care how you dress them, and they will never remember their early childhood fashion fiascos, but you do. Keep an eye open for any baby clothes sale online and buy the most adorable and comfortable outfits for your little one right from the coziness of your home.

4. Feeding equipment – Breast and bottle-feeding supplies

Feeding is not just about a bottle or nursing, but yes, a bottle is one of the must-haves. There are plenty of other breastfeeding and bottle-feeding supplies such as lightweight burp cloths, bibs, droolers, a nursing or feeding pillow to support your baby and help you avoid straining your neck, and other nursing nice-to-have items like lanolin ointment, a breast pump, nursing bras, etc.

5. Baby soothers

We hate to break it to you, but babies cry. They cry a lot. And most of the time, it’s for no good reason. You feed them, you put them to sleep, you change their diaper, shower them with kisses, and they still cry. That’s when pacifiers and other entertainment tools come to the rescue. You don’t have to spend a fortune on fancy playthings they will probably get bored with after a couple of days, but make sure to have a little box with a few rattles, soothers, and some soft toys.

Your life will totally change once you hear the very first cry coming from your beautiful little one. The rush of love will come with a burden, and you’ll feel like it’s too much for you to handle at once. This is why you should prepare in advance – use the list above as a checklist for baby must-haves to stock up on all the necessities before the big day comes.
